Comer Industries, which designs and produces advanced engineering systems and mechatronic solutions for power transmission, is showing its latest solutions for compact equipment, mining and excavators at ConExpo-Con/Agg 2023 in Las Vegas. Electric drivetrain solutions for a variety of electric compact and medium-sized vehicles are being specifically highlighted as part of the new e-comer brand, a green-tech division announced in mid-February that is dedicated to the market of motors and transmissions for electric vehicles.

The concept e-comer fully electric, two-speed 539-e transmission premiering at the show is displayed coupled with the SMAC Serie 270 liquid-cooled motor. The synchronized transmission, which is primarily targeted to telehandler and wheel loader applications, is designed to be combined with high-voltage electric motor technology. It offers up to 100 kW equivalent engine power and 500 Nm max input torque. Shift-on-the-fly gear change delivers improved shifting timing and smooth shifting behavior without stopping.

The e-comer division is also presenting the TX2 Serie transaxles with differential lock, which is targeted to compact electric vehicles such as a mini dumper. The high-efficiency, low-noise system comes with AMAC Serie AC induction or SMAC Serie synchronous IPM motors. Safety electromagnetic negative brakes enable a fast response time.

The WD series all-in-one integrated electric wheel drives shown include the WD220 Serie and WD300T Serie. Designed for compact off-highway equipment, these waterproof wheel drives consist of a planetary gearbox combined with a SMAC series interior permanent magnet motor to deliver high torque and a long performance life, said Comer.

A further example of the synergy between the e-comer division and the traditional Comer Industries, said the company, is represented by the new PG 1500 EXe gearbox for 20-ton excavators. This new two-stage planetary is 20% lighter than the previous model and can now be supplied as a complete package with the SMAC Serie synchronous permanent magnet electric motors series.

For large crawler excavators, Comer is showing the PGR 11000 EXM equipped with a plug-in hydraulic motor tailored for the 50-ton size. The same units can meet machine specifications up to 65 tons.

For the mining market, the 17C is the newest cardan joint size in the Mechanics Driveshaft brand. It can transmit up to 120 kNm of torque, a 33% increase over the smaller model, and accommodate 25° intermittent articulation. The 17C serves primarily for propeller shafts on mining applications such as rigid dump trucks and large wheel loaders, as well as for the main or auxiliary drive on large industrial machines.

Suited for the same mining application coupled to the main engine propeller, the Rockford Clutch brand S370 fan clutch can help lower fuel consumption and fan noise while meeting the cooling demands of the toughest off-highway applications, said Comer. The high-performance, variable-speed fan clutch is designed and manufactured specifically for tough, harsh environments.

The ICVD transmission, a Walterscheid compact, robust integrated hydrostatic drive unit, provides stepless acceleration up to 40 km/h along with improved operator comfort. It is available in two versions, both with a conversion range of 8:1, allowing OEMs to have maximum flexibility in the arrangement of vehicle drivetrain components.

The P-10 axle series is an integrated solution dedicated to mobile elevating work platform applications. Developed from the same modular concept as the Comer new axle generation, the P-10 axle range was designed and built to match the specific market segment requirements in terms of safety, performance and total cost of ownership (TCO), the company said. Its compact design allows for easy installation on machines.

The P-10 range, along with the larger P-20 series, will pair with multi-purpose transmissions. For a traditional powertrain layout in the case of a thermal power engine, a hydro motor is integrated in the axle. The main purpose of the P-10 Hydroaxle is to deliver proper system efficiency within an ergonomic and compact solution at a competitive TCO, Comer said. The rear axle can be coupled with the new I-428 HS, the latest generation of electrified transmission, for a fully electric machine within the same driveline architecture and without altering the front axle.

In addition to drivetrain products, Comer is showing a fully integrated solution for slew drive function. The PG-160 drive, displayed as part of the planetary drive product range, combines a hydraulic motor and counterbalance valve in a single package.
